Trusted Servants

SERENITYIn accordance with Tradition 2, ASP’s “leaders are but trusted servants— they do not govern.” They are members of ASP who volunteer to serve the group for a given period of time, which varies according to each service position.

Members can check here at any time to see who their trusted servants are and when rotation of leadership is indicated. Those chosen to serve must be members of ASP for 6 months or more.

There are 3 groups of Trusted Servants in A Serenity Place: The Daily Chairs, the Greeters and the Steering Committee. All are defined below. For a more detailed listing of various service responsibilities, please see the ASP Service Structure.

Daily Chairs

The Daily Chairs (those who post the daily topic, open and close the meeting) rotate every 6 months. The next rotation will occur in January 2016. The Meeting Secretary will then announce the need for new daily chairs and ask for volunteers. Those chosen to be Daily Chairs receive a link to the Daily Chairperson Instructions in an email from the Meeting Secretary. All current Daily Chairs are listed on the Daily Meetings page.

Greeters

The Greeters at A Serenity Place rotate every 12 months. They are in charge of welcoming new members to the meeting. The Greeters also post a welcoming email for each new member to the general meeting, inviting other members to welcome them as well. Those chosen to be Greeters receive a link to the Greeter Instructions in an email from the Greeter Chair.

The Greeters rotate yearly or whenever a vacancy occurs. Those listed below are serving currently:

Monday – Charlene

Tuesday – Diane

Wednesday – Donna

Thursday – MJ

Friday – LauraT

Saturday – Adrienne

Sunday – Linda

Emails addressed to greeters@asp-afg.org go to all current members of the Greeter Committee, including the Greeter Chair, who is part of the Steering Committee as listed below. As the end of their term approaches, the List Administrator will post a request to the general meeting for anyone who would like to serve as a Greeter.

Steering Committee

The Steering Committee is the primary business committee of A Serenity Place. The Steering Committee is composed of all elected officers, Chair persons of committees (but not sub-committees), two ‘founders’ (the original founders of A Serenity Place or those most nearly so), and two general members of A Serenity Place. Only the Steering Committee has ‘jurisdiction’ over issues of member/trusted servant behavior; the Steering Committee has the authority to unsubscribe individuals (or remove trusted servants from office) who somehow violate Group policy so that the Group needs them to leave—a similar process to what the Alateens do.

Most members of ASP’s Steering Committee serve for a term of 3 years. Founding members serve indefinitely and two general elected members serve for a period of 6 months. Anyone interested in serving on the Steering Committee should attend the Business Meeting regularly. When the term for a service position is nearing its close, the election of a new trusted servant will be placed on the Business Meeting Agenda. Anyone interested in filling the vacant seat will be asked to submit a resume. Links to the resume form appear at the bottom of this page. Please be aware that in ASP, those who are members of both Al-Anon and AA are not eligible to serve on the Steering Committee. Those who currently serve on the Steering Committee are:
